Next Meeting - November 20, 2005
|
On October 7th Sharon Whitney and Joann Elder staffed the PFLAG table at the Young Women’s Leadership summit at the Rock County UW Campus in Janesville. Madison PFLAG was invited because there was no local PFLAG organization in the Janesville area. The keynote speaker was Cheryl Rosen Weston, a UW Madison law professor. Her speech addressed this year’s theme, “Strength through Adversity.” Sharon says that she and Joann were inspired by the young women who stopped by for information, and that they felt that the PFLAG literature they brought with them was very useful to the attendees.
Action Wisconsin is taking a leading role in organizing to fight the ban
on same-sex marriage and domestic partnerships. Please check their website
(www.actionwisconsin.org) periodically
for current activities. PFLAG participated with good results in a phone bank
effort after the October PFLAG meeting, and another phone bank effort is planned
for after the November meeting.

We had a very successful summer at the market thanks to all
the sitters, who often were there in spite of not very good weather. Thanks
to you all, but especially to Sharon Whitney who put in the most hours and
sat through many of the bad weather days and also to Jo Elder who brought
and retrieved the table most of the summer. Also many thanks to Jane LaFlash
for getting our new banner designed, made and installed. It is a work of art.
The market starts up again in April. It is not too early to let me know what
Saturdays you would like to sit. I will try to get the same corner next summer.
If you have questions about the market table just let me know.
Methodist Court Removes Openly Lesbian Minister
The highest court in the United Methodist Church defrocked a lesbian minister and reinstated a pastor who refused to allow a gay man to join his congregation.
Ceremony in Verona
You might remember James Mulder and Charles Philyaw from the potluck at Joyce’s last summer. We attended their marriage ceremony on October 15th at the Salem United Church of Christ in Verona. It was a beautiful ceremony (aren’t all weddings?) and the support of family and friends in that ceremony was touching.
