Hello Market Sitters! We were able to get the same location on South Hamilton for this year as we had last year–the best location there can be. It is not too early to sign up with Kay for doing some sitting up there. We generally have 2 shifts of 2 hours each (8-10 and 10-12) with 2 people for each, but this is quite flexible. If you just want one hour or if you want 3 or 4 hours that is OK. One person can be there or 3 or 4 at a time. The first Saturday will be April 22 and the last is November 4. (No market on July 8.) If you just want to help with bringing and taking the table and materials and not actually "sit", that would be super too! Jo Elder did the "schleping" the last couple years and Peter before her and it is quite a job! E-mail Kay or call at 221-1956.
The national web site, www.pflag.org is quite good and deserves a look-see if you have not been there recently. The entire issue of the national magazine, the "PFLAG pole" is on the site. (It is only being published twice per year now.) If you want PFLAG stuff (cups, jewelry, hats etc) you can get it there too. There will be a regional meeting in Chicago in November; details at the site. While you are at it, take a look at our Madison site: www.pflag-madison.org. Thanks again to Carl who keeps our Madison site looking spiffy
I enjoyed this column by Leonard Pitts. If it is still on the site I expect you will, too.
Fire, brimstone the surest way to say you're gay.
Allow me to share with you an epiphany. I think Fred Phelps is gay. Not that
I'd have any way to know for sure, and not that there's anything wrong with
that. But it seems obvious to me that Freddie has spent a little time up on
Brokeback Mountain, if you catch my drift. I'm thinking he's secretly into
show tunes, interior decorating and man-sized love.

Integrity/Dignity now has a web site that, if all goes well with the group is planned for expansion to include things like newsletters published, pictures of group events, minutes of meetings, links to other groups, etc. Currently, you can check the year's calendar (and a bit of other info) at our web site. The web site address is: www.idmadison.org
A research group from Northwestern University is doing genetic
research on sexual orientation and they need men with a gay brother(s) for
their study. The participant needs to fill out a questionaire and give a
blood sample, and for this he will receive $10. For more information, go
to www.gaybros.com or call 866-364-7571
(toll free).
Brochures will be available at the March PFLAG meeting.
We have talked a lot about how gay and lesbian couples would
be harmed by the civil unions and marriage ban, but did you know that the
broad language of the ban will endanger any form of legal protections for
unmarried couples--whether they are gay or straight?
Amendments passed in other states are being used to overturn domestic violence
protections, child custody issues, and domestic partner benefits.
http://www.actionwisconsin.org/VoteNo/
Some examples of what has happened in other states:
1. In Ohio, judges have dismissed domestic violence cases
brought against men who abused their girlfriends, simply because they were
not married.
2. The Michigan attorney general has ruled that their ban overturns domestic
partner policies for state and local government employees.
3. A Utah attorney is claiming the ban there invalidates a restraining order
taken out against a man by his ex-girlfriend.
4. A court in Ohio is being asked to void a child custody agreement between
a same-sex couple
