From the Human Rights Campaign Newsletter:
Perhaps most exciting of all, we had a first-ever win against a discriminatory, anti-GLBT constitutional amendment. While we had heartbreaking losses in seven states, with a near-win in South Dakota, Arizona made history this week by defeating a ban on domes-tic partnerships. We salute everyone who worked to defeat these discriminatory measures and we especially congratulate Arizona Together for its successful campaign to defeat that state's discriminatory initiative.
From the Fair Wisconsin Newsletter:
Although we were not able to defeat the civil unions and marriage ban, together we laid the foundation for long-term change in Wisconsin.
As a supporter of equal rights, your input is very important to us as we assess our next steps. Please take a moment to complete a survey regarding the future of the movement in our state:
"As the title suggests, the author documents a vicious campaign that
fundamentalists are waging against homosexuality and gay Americans in order
to raise funds and mobilize volunteers in a much broader war to control church
and state alike...indeed to break down the wall that sepa-rates church and
state. Replacing democracy with theocracy and ultimately creating a
new "Christian nation" is the fundamentalist's goal. Theirs is a
work in progress. Our families, our sons and daughters, will all be losers
if this foothold is permitted to become stronger."
The topic at the November meeting was Couples (Same sex couples shared with us the history of their relationships, the response of their families, how they felt their relationships was the same as or different than opposite-sex couples, issues through time, and other relevant topics). One set of presenters, Clarence and Bob (photo below), just happened to be celebrating their 45th anniversary on the meeting day, and were surprised with a “Happy Anniversary” cake.
