CHAPTER PRESIDENT'S NOTE

Kay Heggestad

Happy Spring!  This April meeting is very important since we will hear from our nominating committee about people interested in being on the board of directors of Madison PFLAG.  If you are interested and have not been contacted, please let me know ASAP.

The famous Madison Farmers' Market starts on April 19 and runs every Saturday morning until early November.  We staff a table at the South Hamilton corner of the capital square in 2 shifts:  8-10 and 10-12.  Jo Elder brings and takes the table and all materials, so volunteers just need to sit there, look pretty, enjoy the weather and people watching, eat pastry, and give out our booklets and answer questions from the walkers.  Kay does all the scheduling, so for more information or to sign up:   221-1956 or kahegges@yahoo.com.
We are also looking for catchy slogans to put on stickers to pass out at the market.  Ideas?

During this summer, the board will be deciding on educational topics for 2007-2008.  If you have any suggestions for topics please let me or any board member know.

Book Review

Joann Elder will give a brief book report on Mel White's book, "Religion Gone Bad".  First published in 2006 with a sub-title of "The Hidden Dangers of the Christian Right", it is an ideal "heads up" for all of us today.  Jo has been clipping the papers when some of these "hidden dangers" pop up in our news.  And we can take heed about what to look for in the up-coming election when the religious Right tries to do it's stuff once more. It's not "political" when we PFLAG'ers spell out these dangers.  It IS educational as well as vital to our democracy, and to the lives of our loved ones.  This is a scary book - rightly so.  And Mel knows whereof he speaks.  We have it in our PFLAG library, and I would recommend owning your own copy.

Perfect Harmony

GOOD NEWS:
Perfect Harmony, the super men's chorus, is going to do a BENEFIT performance for US...for Madison PFLAG!!!

Thurs, July 10, 2008
Time:  TBA (7ish or 8ish)
Place:  Glenwood Moravian Church (they are donating the space) off Monroe, near Dudgeon.
They need a good dress rehearsal for their Florida convention the following week.

THE REQUEST:
Tickets will be roughly $10 each...
We get to sell advance tickets to friends and relatives etc... and all the $ we collect comes back to Madison PFLAG..

So, I need to know:  Please send me your best guess (only if over zero) as to how many tickets you might buy for yourselves/and sell to others.

We need some sort of guess since the theater holds about 150... if we don't think we can get somewhere close to that, then Perf Harm will ask a second group, eg Proud Theater, if they want in on this...then they will get the $ from whatever part they sell and we would need to split the box office money with them.

I won't hold you to your guess, but please send it soon.

THANKS, Kay

Report from the Nominating Committee

All current board members were contacted.  Three board members have indicated that they wish to be replaced so others may have a turn.  Tom Dean and Seiko Yoshinaga have agreed to be nominated for a co-board member position.  Karen Baker has agreed to be nominated for president-elect with the understanding that the treasurer’s job will be done by someone else while she is president.  We will continue to seek other names for nomination for board membership.  Anyone willing to serve please contact a nominating committee member.  Election will take place at the May meeting with additional nominations from the group accepted.  All paid members may vote.

Respectfully submitted,
Nancy and Ken Jones
