Farmers’ Market

The famous Madison Farmers' Market has started and runs every Saturday morning until early November.  We staff a table at the South Hamilton corner of the capital square in 2 shifts:  8-10 and 10-12.  Jo Elder brings and takes the table and all materials, so volunteers just need to sit there, look pretty, enjoy the weather and people watching, eat pastry, and give out our booklets and answer questions from the walkers.  Kay does all the scheduling, so contact us for more information or to sign up.

Dues

Membership dues are to be turned in by October 1.  PLEASE PAY NOW!  Write to Karen at PTANDKJ@charter.net or go to our web site   www.pflag-madison.org  to get the form.
Please PAY NOW for the 2008-2009 member year.  You may pay at the Sept. meeting or mail it in to Karen.  We really pay very little for so very much from national!  They have a very tight budget and member dues is only 3% of that budget ... the rest is from donations from all of us and from the corporate sponsors.

New Chapter Email

We have a new chapter email address:  pflagmadison@yahoo.com .  Kay will be checking this daily and when out of email range, will turn it over to whoever has the phone for the month.  This will appear on our letterheads, business cards, web site, and next edition of our brochures, etc.  The old one will still work but this looks more professional and easy to remember.

REGIONAL CONFERENCE

Save the date and plan to carpool to Minneapolis for the one day only super colossal regional conference on September 27.  Many workshops, good speakers, entertainment, fun and food will be provided.  Details are on the Minneapolis/St.Paul PFLAG website at http://www.pflagtc.org/.  Better get moving on this; some of the material on the website specifies a limit of 300 attendees.

Book Review (Harriet Bruyn)

I'm reading "White Coat Wisdom" by Stephen Busalacchi, a veteran medical reporter on NPR and WPR. He relates interviews with remarkable physicians of our half of Wisconsin, most from Madison and Milwaukee, including Dodgeville and Oshkosh.

Our own Kay and Paul are included, each having their own chapter and topic. Thirty-five other physicians are included, some names familiar, each with their own story and points of interest.

Just thought I'd pass this title along if you are interested.

Madison Pride Parade

11:00 am: Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin & others addressed the crowd on the Capitol steps.
11:20 am: March around the Capitol.

Unfortunately, the Pride Parade was reduced in scope from the longer treks of previous years to the eight block march around the Capitol Square this year. The march down State Street, done in previous years, was always inspiring due to the encouragement and support of those along the way who cheered us on.

Photo Exhibit - “Shall Not Be Recognized” (Harriet Bruyn)
"Shall Not Be Recognized" is a photo exhibit of same sex couples.  We (Madison PFLAG) have several CDs as they were given to us by Will Fellows of Milwaukee PFLAG when we were at the National conference in DC last October.

Curt Anderson and the Rainbow People over at First Congregational are hosting the photo exhibit 1-12 October (the 12th is their annual Open and Affirming service). Curt has been working with Will directly to bring this about. They are still trying to find one or two more locations around town to round out the month. As I get more information from Curt, I’ll pass it on.
