Washington State voters preserve domestic partnership rights: We’re thankful for the success in Washington State, where Regional Director Kathy Reim led PFLAG chapters in the fight to protect relationship recognition in the state. In this challenging ballot measure, citizens had to vote in favor of keeping domestic partnership benefits. Despite hard campaigning from our opposition, couples will continue to receive some of the benefits of marriage – a critical step in the fight for full marriage equality. Remarkably, this marked the first time a state’s voters have approved a gay equality measure at the ballot box and PFLAG was a part of this win.
The District of Columbia now will allow same sex marriage! It passed on Dec. 1, 2009.
But, the state senate of New York did not pass the bill that would allow marriage equality there. Win some. Lose some.

Don't Ask Don't Tell:
Thanks to Madison Board member Paul Wertsch, the American Medical Association
is now on record as being in favor of repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"
in the military. Paul got the resolution passed at the AMA meeting in Houston
in November. See
Paul's speech.
Chapter brochures:
Casey Garhart and her committee (Jo, Kay, Debbie) are nearly finished with
the design of new chapter brochures and they will be stupendous. They hope
to have some in your hands by beginning of the year.
Farmers' Market:
Kay wants to thank again all the folks who worked so hard at keeping PFLAG
alive at the farmers market all summer. Through rain, wind, frying heat and
icy cold weather they sat, only complaining a little.
The Lieutenant Governor's Conference on LGBT Youth:
March 5, 2010. Full day conference in Oshkosh by the Gay Straight Alliance
for Safe Schools and Diverse and Resilient. The conference will be held on
the UW-Oshkosh campus. It should be excellent. Let Kay know if you want to
go. For more details go to GSAFE
and/or Our
Lives Magazine.
PFLAG Speakers' Bureau:
Kay is still looking for someone to lead the speakers' bureau. First one to
respond will get to be the boss.

PFLAG Joins LGBT Groups in Demanding Congressional Action on ENDA: In light of continuing delays in the House of Representatives, we must state clearly and unequivocally: Passing basic job protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people must happen now. At a time when our government is deeply focused on the critical issue of employment, it is inexcusable to delay action on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). Each and every job lost to prejudice based on sexual orientation and gender identity needlessly compounds the unemployment challenges facing our nation. We call on Congress for the immediate passage of ENDA. more...
